Job Description

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN            (Regular Full-Time   Non-exempt)   

Starting Salary:$15.97/hr.

Closing Date:  12/11/18 at 5 pm

POSITION PURPOSE:

To assist the Maintenance Crewleader in contributing to public health and sanitary conditions by providing an effective and efficient means of transporting liquid waste from users to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, by operating and maintaining the wastewater collection system. To protect the City’s utility assets by helping to provide utility location of facilities to other entities to avoid damage during construction activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Education:

High school graduate or Equivalent required.

Required Experience:

Two years of experience in utility maintenance or construction, and/or use of equipment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Must be able to work as an integral part of a work crew completing job duties as assigned.
  2. Must be able to perform medium work, exerting more than fifty (50) pounds of force on an occasional basis to lift/move objects.
  3. Must be able to endure and work in adverse weather conditions.
  4. Must be able to traverse irregular surfaces that may be wet, icy, or snow-covered.
  5. Must be able to write and to use a telephone and two-way radio.
  6. Must be able to work in damp or dusty conditions, with occasional exposure to excessive noise.
  7. Able to obtain and maintain residency within 25 mile radius of City Hall within 90-days of employment in this position. (Daily)

SUPERVISION:

Works under supervision of Maintenance Crewleader. 

RESIDENCY:

Employees of Public Works Streets and Fleet and Public Works Water and Wastewater Maintenance crews must reside within a 25-mile radius of the respective Public Works Shops for the purpose of responding to call backs and after-hours or on-call duties.
