Job Description

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER (# 613)         Starting Wage:  $16.23 / hr.  

Closes: 06/25/19

Regular / Full-time / Non-exempt position

Reports to:   Animal Shelter/Control Supervisor

Apprehends stray domestic animals within the City of Manhattan, Riley County, or other jurisdictions specified by City administration.  Enforces animal laws and codes for City, County and State.  Patrols City of Manhattan in Animal Control Vehicle. Uses approved and professional methods to capture, and transport animals to the Animal Shelter for processing.  Maintains the health and safety of animals in his/her care, as well as the health and safety of animals in the community.  Investigates reports of animal abuse or cruelty and takes appropriate legal action as necessary.  Interacts with the public on a daily basis providing educational resources concerning animal regulations, guidelines, and services.  Assists with the daily functioning of the Animal Shelter as needed.  Picks up and transports supplies to the Animal Shelter as needed.  Follows up on animal bite reports for the Riley Health Department. Will have contact with non-domestic animals and may respond within established procedures to all animal calls deemed necessary and lawful as authorized by City Administration.
