Job Description

TRAFFIC SUMMER SEASONAL INTERN                           4 - POSITIONS AVAILABLE        

$10.00/HR.  Must be 18 years or older and posses a valid drivers license.  

The Traffic Summer Seasonal meets daily with the Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor to receive instructions and work assignments and is responsible for assigned materials, tools and equipment that are taken to the work site.  The Seasonal is responsible for assisting in maintaining a clean and safe work site to ensure the safety of the public and other crewmembers.

Problems unique to this position include working in adverse weather conditions that include temperature extremes, maintenance of tools and equipment, and working in hazardous situations such as high traffic/speed areas, as well as at heights.

Challenges to this position include the wide range of maintenance activities, working in adverse weather conditions and working at heights

The Traffic seasonal works with limited direct supervision on signing and application of all types pavement markings.  However, performance is measured by the quality and timeliness of each assigned task.  In addition, performance is measured by the accurateness of logs, condition of assigned equipment and uniform appearance of completed tasks.

General duties and responsibilities assigned to a Maintenance Worker I:

  1. Install and/or replace traffic control signs. (As Needed.)
  2. Install and/or replace pavement markings. (Daily)
  3. Assure pavement markings are uniform in appearance.
  4. Perform routine maintenance on division equipment and vehicles. (As Needed)
  5. Properly wear safety vest, properly utilize & deploy other safety items provided by the City.
  6. Maintain accurate logs of all sign and traffic signal maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

General knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in a variety of maintenance tasks.  Ability to perform moderately complex tasks, effectively operate light to medium weight equipment and tools, and understand oral and written instructions.  Work harmoniously with other employees and an ability to perform manual labor tasks of a medium nature under adverse weather conditions.  Ability to operate various size vehicles and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license.

Required Knowledge:

Knowledge of basic maintenance activities and capable of reading and comprehending written material.

Skills/Abilities

Ability to provide written legible communications.

Possess good verbal skills.

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts

Supervision

Works under direct supervision.
